Our Mission

Since 1977 our community's mature citizen, 55 and older, can find a multipurpose facility at the Bethel Senior Center. It is our mission to come together for friendship, knowledge and social activities; and to encourage positive attitudes and preserve individual dignity for all older adults.

The Bethel Senior Center offers over 40 different activities and classes:

Exercise: Seniorcise, Tai Chi, Yoga, Line Dancing, Square Dancing, Swimmercize, Basketball, Zumba Gold

Creative Classes: Crafts, Knitting, Crocheting, Art, Ceramics, Quilting, Computer, Singing Group, Creative Writing, Women's & Men's Issues Discussion Group, Bible Study

Services: Meals on Wheels, Blood Pressure Clinic, AARP Tax Aide, AARP Driving Course, Health and Awareness Seminars, Health Insurance Counseling, Lunch everyday, Hot lunch on Friday, R.S.V.P. Volunteer Program, Toastmasters, Senior Dine

Games, Parties & Travel: Bridge, Canasta, Cribbage, Rummy, Mah Jong, Poker, Pinochle, Billiards, Puzzle Making, Holiday Parties, Day and Extended Trips.

Our Mission

The Brookfield Senior Center seeks to improve the quality of life for Brookfield senior citizens through social, educational, physical, creative and intergenerational programs.  

There is no fee for membership to the Center.

The Brookfield Senior Center Promotes Successful Aging:

Information/Educational Sessions: health, safety, financial issues, area professionals and officials, AARP Safe Drivers courses, book discussion groups, and Senior Computer workshops. Also includes various support group meetings, monthly Senior Council meetings and Commission on Aging Meetings.

Exercise: Tai chi, Zumba, Yoga, Chair Yoga, Low Impact Aerobics, Ballroom Dancing, and walking programs.

Creative Arts: Sketching and Painting classes, Knitting and crocheting, ceramics, Craft classes, Garden Club courses, and papercraft classes. 

“Feel Good” activities; movies, theme and holiday celebrations, day trips, men’s groups, special social events, monthly Birthday Celebrations and Bingo.

Health: bimonthly blood pressure screenings, flu shots, and other health screenings including hearing, bone density etc; educational programs including medical and nutrition professionals.

Senior Nutrition Services: the senior nutrition program serves a catered lunch 4 days a week. This is currently supplemented by Friday offerings of pizza, hot dogs, and boxed lunches. The cost to seniors for these meals is $2.50. Additionally, the Senior Center is the coordination site for Brookfield Meals on Wheels 5 days a week.

Volunteer Activity: the Senior Center serves as a central location for volunteer activity by Brookfield Seniors including tutoring in Brookfield and Danbury Schools, knitting for local children and homeless shelters (mittens and hats for infants and children, afghans for homeless and women’s shelters, chemo caps, lap robes for dialysis units and nursing homes), personalized quilt making for children in crises at safe house, and capacity building for local agencies and nonprofit organizations and delivering Meals on Wheels to Brookfield residents.

Intergenerational Activities: teaching knitting to Brookfield High School students and working together for the ‘Warm up America’ program, tutoring at local schools, teaching sewing at Whisconnier Middle School, working in the school and public library, walking with students at Huckleberry Hill School for the ‘Rise and Shine Club.

DANBURY CT SENIOR CENTER

Elmwood Hall – The New Danbury Senior Center

This is a multi-purpose drop-in center, open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekdays. Membership is free. Most classes and services are free, as well, with a minimal donation requested for certain programs, services and events.

The New Fairfield Senior Center seeks to provide opportunities for enrichment and interaction for  adults  above the age of 60 in an  atmosphere of  support and  respect and to maximize a  sense of well  being and health through  participation in  activities at the  Center and in the  community.

New Fairfield Senior Center offers daily lunch program provided by New Opportunities Inc., computer classes, sewing groups, card groups-including Poker and Bridge, Yoga, Tai Chi, and Weight Lifting classes, and Women’s Book groups.  Daily calendars are available at the Center.

The Commission on Aging was established in 1973 to study the local needs of the aged and to create, coordinate and foster programs to promote the health, education, welfare and well-being of the elderly of the town of New Milford.

NEWTOWN CT SENIOR CENTER

Mission

The purpose of the center is to enhance the independence of the older citizen by supporting their mental, physical  and social well being and encouraging their many endeavors. The senior center provides a rich diversity of programs and interesting activities for any Newtown resident.

Services

The center is the focal point for distribution of elder services. Includes intergenerational programs, health screenings, monthly blood pressure, HICAP/CHOICES counseling, informational speakers, recreation, daily programs, exercise, crafts, travel, educational and living skill seminars, monthly book discussion group and New Horizons widow and widower support group.

The Senior Center is also a station for R.S.V.P., host for C.A.C.D. a federal funded senior aide program, and A.A.R.P. volunteers during tax season and a 55 alive driving course.

Bus service is available Monday – Friday by sweetheart mini bus.

A monthly newsletter is published.
